Duplantis hits the high notes for athletics anthem
Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis has revolutionised the pole vault and now the Swede has sung the official anthem for the World Athletics Ultimate Championship taking place in Budapest next month.
"Gold" is written and performed by world record holder and reigning world and Olympic champion Duplantis.
"I wrote the song around representing something that's a lot bigger than yourself," the US-born 26-year-old said.
"I think that's what we all do when we're on the track.
"We represent our family, our team, our coaches, and I love that concept.
"Music and sports are the two things that bring people together in the best way, and 'Gold' is an expression of that."
World Athletics said the song would be incorporated into the broadcast and live event sounds at the three-day event and Duplantis will perform it live in the stadium to close out the championship on September 13.
The Ultimate Championship, with a prize pot of $10 million, is a new event that pits Olympic champions, world champions, Diamond League winners and the year's top-ranked athletes against each other to crown "the champion of champions".
