Pakistan-New Zealand Super Eights clash delayed by rain
Persistent rain delayed the start of the T20 World Cup opening Super Eights clash between New Zealand and Pakistan at the R. Premadasa stadium on Saturday.
The pitch and ground were covered with the umpires monitoring the situation after the toss had been made on time. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat.
Light drizzle turned heavy and overs began to be lost after more than an hour and 10 minutes' delay.
If no play is possible by the 10:16 pm (1646 GMT) cut-off time for a five-over match to begin, the contest will be declared a no result with esch side getting one point.
Pakistan, New Zealand, England and co-hosts Sri Lanka are in Group 2 of the Super Eights.
Title-holders India, South Africa, Zimbabwe and the West Indies are in Group 1.
The top two teams from each Group will qualify for the semi-finals.
